Interesting concept and technology. I hope they will offer it in standard and V2 foil options. My first thought was why an outside/front fin, but since some prefer a quad set-up, it definitely makes sense. A center fin is symmetrical, so it would be cheaper to produce just one fin for all. Now they will need to make not only various sizes, but also foil options. This could get really expensive at the production level.

Also the flex and strength characteristics of a hollowed fin....unsure.

Would it be available in two versions? The politically correct version (blue) be able to gather water temperature data, make an adjustment to surfer's body temperature, and automatically fabricate an article "Ocean's temperature is rising faster than we thought". The red version would just assert "The water temperature is 15C -- same as it ever was".

haha yeah, smells sortof politically correct. I showed my brother, who designed and distributes data loggers in OZ, and married to an oceanographer/climate scientist there, and he's said "cool, but not sure how scientifically useful it is."

Pair it with a fin on the other side that deters sharks via emitting the right frequencies - get the Gov't and Non-Profits to subsidize it in partnership and then I think you'd really be cooking with gas

Or.. I should say - who is psyched to take the risk that the configuration as is might be making you look curiously more inviting for an investigation bite due to the existing electronic emission +*!@

I think a study into this is worth it either way!
