West Coast Poor Wind Speeds

It looks like California recovered in time for the season this year, but Oregon and Washington suffered big time. This year was the worst spring wind for kiteboarding I've seen in the Sacramento Valley. However, Sherman actually came on strong earlier in May, and one long-time instructor was saying this was the best May he's had in years
Here's the article on wind power plant woes on the west coast this year:

They don't talk about the reason for this drop off in wind, which appears to be tied to this years' El Nino.

On a micro level, wind levels and frequency at Dillon this summer have been above normal.

From what I have read, El Nino conditions will dampen wind on the coast this winter.

Not sure where they are measuring for Oregon. I've been windsurfing and kiting the Gorge and Manzanita for 25 years and this has been my windiest. West wind in the Gorge even started early and went late and now the Easterlies are howling but I'm sure no windmills get those.

The season still continues in Southern California. Clearing winds this week and amazing conditions from San Diego to Ventura County earlier in the week and good onshore flows in the afternoons otherwise...
