Hello there! While the wind isn't quite there yet I've been indulging myself in surfing sessions at OB. Does anyone know if it's ok to go on muni with 8' surfboard? I know that riding with kiting rig is not problematic, but 8' board...

Done it many times but my boards are either way a 6'8 or a 5'11...
Where do you plan on commuting from? If you are already in the avenues, it shouldn't be a problem as the bus or tram will be pretty empty.
If you start from the mission it might be another story...

Agree w/ Vincent depends where from, what line and time of day - also can probably get away with more gear on a Judah / Taraval train than a bus, esp once you hit the avenues and the amount of passengers thins out

Yes. Train passed west portal or 38L bus passed arguello will be fairly empty at anytime of the day.
Bus is faster than the train though.
I live in laurel heights. Take the 38L at Geary and arguello and it takes me about 40min from my door to the water.
Pretty easy...
Also, I think 7 footer is probably as long as you can take on the bus if you put it straight up. I think 8 footer you'll have to lay it down and that might piss a few commuters off.
Zipcar is another option...

with a board 6'6" or shorter you can navigate any muni crowd by standing it upright. sell the 8' footer and get a shortboard or a fish. they're more fun in the water anyway; 8' is an awkward length for a surfboard on land or water... unless it's a sup or a gun i guess...

Thanks for all the responses. I guess the best is to ask several bus drivers for their opinions on 8' long object onboard.

I live on Hob Hill, so I was thinking about taking the N train or 38 bus. But sounds like it might be quite packed.
