Great Start for 2015

We decided to stay stateside this winter rather than hitting the Lord of The Wind competition in Los Barriles. Had a great north wind session on the flooded Sutter Bypass December 26th, then a six day Utah tour with three days of good wind at Skyline, two days without wind ( had to settle for Snowbird and Deer Valley), then a great final day at Strawberry.

Also had a great north wind day at Thermalito afterbay on Tuesday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPR84jXbRi8
I hope all of those in Norcal, Baja and the other locales are getting a great start to the new year also.

Greetings from the bay area - what are these kites you speak of?

We were riding 14m Slingshot Rallys for snowkiting and at Thermalito. Had to use our Lightwave Wings at Thermalito. Good kites for lighter wind and long stable boosts.
Some of the snowkiters use 17m and 19m kites, which are better for gliding. We were in awe of Jake Buzianis doing real long glides at Strawberry on an 18M Ozone foil kite.
Wish we could get some more of that snowkite action soon.

I have a 14m Rally for sale if any of the snowkite crew needs one!

Just came back from a long overdue business/family visit/vacation trip in the Southern Philippine islands.

First stop was Boracay. Plenty of wind, and lots of kiting. Beautiful island, but a bit congested and tough to kite. Lots of visiting kiters seem to not follow right of way rules and a bit obnoxious, self entitled pompous behavior.

Local crew very friendly. Befriended a group of local crew, and went on an isolated island trip with them on a private pump boat and had fun kiting there.

Second stop was Bantayan island. Visited family that were devastated from the worst hurricane season over there. Assessed damage and plans for restoring our home over there. Also have to do long term planning to start up businesses there damaged by the storms. Despite a very busy schedule, me and family members were able to do some island hopping and surf/kite neighboring islands.

Third stop was Northern Mindanao. Flew to Laguindingan airport. Drove up to Surigao, stopping and sleeping along the way for surfing/kiting/windsurfing/rest.

Fourth stop was Siargao. Three hour boat trip from Surigao, epic kiting and surfing sessions over there. Another relative owns a pump boat, so we were able to island hop as well and kite/windusf/surf on different islands.

Not a bad way to end the year, and start another year as well on my end.
