Don't teach your kids at third.

I know I'm not the only one who saw the kid almost superman it into the concrete piles at the upper launch, with his dad teaching him on Saturday.

Yeah 3rd at super high tide (ie super slick) and gusty conditions is NOT the place to teach your kids. Go to Alameda. Hell 3rd isn't great for beginners in general
Listing gear is bad, and you should feel bad.

and progressively worse for advanced people… I can barely keep my footing on the upper launch these days.

crazy someone was teaching their kid there. I think Waddell is safer...

The first skill to teach kids at Waddell is definitely body dragging +*!@

NorCalnomad:

Totally agree that at high tides and/or when the launch area with slippery, even though it may look like it is dry, is NOT a place for beginners; those that can not stay or easily go upwind. However, at medium tides, when the small beach at "inktomi" is exposed, 3rd ave is an excellent, and probably the best place in the area for beginners to kite.
