thinking about making a trip up there this weekend. not sure what to expect and can't find much online about it.

looks fairly exposed to NW swell and maybe get's a bit of a sideshore venturi effect as well? seems intriguing on the map.

how do the waves compare to other spots? is it soft and predictable like the Waddell rock reefs or more of a thumping and shifty beach-break like HMB?

do they tend to pound the shore or break out the back OB style?

GO!,and you'll ask yourself...what took me so long?
WAY,way more approachable then any of the other spots mentioned.
Dillon has no defined break,more like 37 breaks,endlessly shifting sandbars.
I have herd the waves there described as A-framey' and "reefy" ....fun, usually head-high.
dillon is very unique,shallow (but still overhead) for a LONG ways out from outgoing
tides carrying sand out of tamales bay,the waves break in tiers seemingly stretching to the horizon,must be at least a mile or more out,you'll never make it past the waves to open ocean,
at least i never have,or will try again.

Dillon is such a refreshing change,after fighting for waves at waddle,
and fighting for your life at OB,
Dillon has an expansive open feel with waves literally everywhere.
Most people i've seen there is about 15 kiters and few w-surfers,lots of room.
I have not noticed any venturi,or weird rotors coming off the hills,
but the wind venturis' big time down tomales (ask the pole-boarders)
and the wind seems to hit the beach as WNW.
The wind might tend to be lighter than say the same day at OB/waddle,
but it can nuke as well.
hit it in spring a heat bubble can develop when it's too hot,and hold the wind offshore.
And it's actually a nice drive out there...Peaceful...happy cows.
Have fun.
Only sucky thing is the $8 charge to park,just to park,you can walk in.

I remember having an all-time epic session out there last year on January 19. A weekday, I was able to head out there (this almost never happens), it was warm, sunny and the wind was great. I kited out to open ocean very close to the buoy, which is quite a ways out. (Not suggesting anyone do this, though...). Maybe 3 or 4 kites out, but there could have been 20 for all I cared, I was on my own trip that day and it is etched in as being really good...

Becareful.. the outside can get BIG.. and lots of current!

So...who's going to Dillon this weekend? :) Sounds like a trip to be made.

coast does look promising across the board...

Dillon is all that and more (my Avatar is a shot from Dillon last year).

What they are't telling you... don't breakdown on the far side, otherwise you'll have to do the "SHARK CRAWL" to get back. Dillon can HONK, so watch the weather, I've been blown off the beach on 8M Kite often.

Befreind the locals - There are a few very savoy kiters out there that will save your ass if you get into trouble. And watch out for JOE screaming by in the butter below the sandbars. :)

I understand Salmon Creek is kitable like Dillon, the major difference being its further up the coast, hence less convenient.
