I've had some of my best coastal sessions at Dillon beach, but I have to admit that place did spook me a few times when I got separated from my board going over a breaking wave way outside and having to body-drag back to my board. That was the probably the fastest I've ever body-dragged.
After reading the WannaSurf link, I may now consider using something like this... http://sharkshield.com/

It's pretty expensive and also it's on your board...not sure how helpful it will be if you're body dragging far away from your board. Get a knife instead.

I am offering a new service ibite.com and bitealert.com for real time positioning of whitey. $9.95mo or 1 year for $119.95

I have also installed an acoustic receiver on each of my boards to let me know when they are within 250M or closer. Makes you learn the importance of sticking your jibes real quick. I believe only 37 of the 178 tagged were from TOM Point area. Interesting read.

I honestly DON'T want to know. Holy sh*$. If I actually knew there was a shark nearby I'd freak the F*#k out. I'm way better off living in denial!

Might play things more conservative if you knew...
my mental thought process goes something like this:
"was that a fin? better turn around and kite on the otherside of the beach" Then of course, BAM faceplant, board 20' away, kite down... murph.

Same feeling when I fall off my board outside of the golden gate -- cue theme song to Jaws.
You will occasionally see small sharks breaching out there or sea lions poking their head up as you ride by and you suddenly realize that big blue 300 feet deep channel is not just cold and empty
I have yet to go to Dillon but I've seen pictures and I think as tempting as those outside breaks look I'd have to leave them to Grady McWhite and the pro kitesurfers and stick to the inside
