LOL yuri :) i would actually make money at this if i could sell hot dogs for $10 :) The wind forecast is great this weekend...and usually higher winds means less families/beach goers. If my memory serves me (and that is suspect after years on the beach), Mem day weekend is most crowded on the holiday itself, Monday 5/30. July 4th, same thing, busiest day is the actual day of the holiday. In past years Sat/Sun has been surprisingly quiet as so many people go out of town for the long weekend. And I think kiters everywhere have generally gone to non-family spots on the holiday days like 5/30, 7/4....just to give the families a break.

We do not teach lessons on the actual holiday day (Monday 5/30, 7/4) because in past years it's been too crowded with picnics, families, etc. We will still get there early and put up the cones and signs to mark the launch area so there is somewhere to launch if the beach is crowded.

Yuri, if you can sell tags for $18,000 I could really use you on our volunteer staff...that would be a lot of money raised for girls inc. And you are funny that you think we own the beach...I thought you did! You kite there the most of anyone...except this year with your busted arm...I am glad you can still type on forums! And I know I am no where the kiter you are....my earlier post was about teaching experience, not riding experience. As you know, those who can do, and those who can't teach  But after my lesson with Donny up at Kitopia last summer, I am actually busting some nice jumps. I will try to jump near you when you get back out there my friend. Then I can watch your kite loops from a bird's eye view =D>

And yes, all volunteers this weekend get fed, and can remove one infant each for free from the crowded launch area up by the shack. Parents love to roll their strollers right into the launch area and look up and stare at the beautiful kites. Little babies are so damn cute! Maybe a baby clinic is next...I saw a 3 year old flying a trainer kite in Barbados a couple winters ago (with a harness)...it was pretty damn cute.

Have a great Memorial Day Weekend everyone, and thanks in advance to anyone who comes to help out on a fun event for a great cause.

Jane :)

p.s. anyone willing to teach me to be as good a kiter as Yuri, bring it! I'm ready :):)

dude I'm in. And let's go play golf! That's my favorite place to eat hot dogs and drink beer :) They just taste better on a golf course. Now that kiting is so popular (ahhhh, maybe the new rollerblading of the water?), let's go for golf, fishing or tennis! I think those have all been declining over the years.

One more question, I think this will come up.
What happens if a kiter or group of kiters not affiliated with the show rig and fly. Are they allowed, or is kiting this weekend strictly for the event?
Not everyone has access to the internet, ..., just asking, ...

windhorny wrote:Rey, in the past we have agreed to not kite on 4th of July, memorial day and any other holiday the beaches are just too large of a percentage public to keep kiting safe.

BUT, we are not the owners or Crown beach, Boardsports is. So all we can do is assist, for free, any requests they might have. Please come to alameda beach this weekend and help support women in need. Bring a life guard shirt just in case you have the chance to rescue a hot kiteress in need. And bring some money to throw in the Boardsposrts tip jar as they are always there to help charities for non-profit and anyone else in need. I hear hotdogs are $10/each for men. But, for every hotdog you buy, they will let you move one child off the launch hassle free!

Limited time only, this sat. and sun. YOU can move a beach goer and their family with no hassles! Just show your boardsports authority tag to them and they will not ask any questions. They will move in fear of your great power like you have never experienced before.

Greg, are you threatening me? I take that pretty seriously. i never know as you have stated you have given up kiting, posting on this forum, building toys for the delta....and then you come ask me to help make toys for the delta, start kiting and start posting more than anyone else on here. You clearly dont value my friendship enough to at least not insult me and threaten me online.

I will continue to point out lies when they conflict deep enough with my morals that I can't keep my mouth shut. I am more than willing to list examples of why I made a comment on anything I have in the past regarding these issues. but i figured that is just an excess of negative energy and I would take the humour approach.

Maybe we should have an official Bay Area Kiteboarding Re-Do Day where we can all go through our posts and edit accordingly. We all have bad days.

I think Greg and Yuri need to get off this forum and go out for a drink, and every one on this topic needs to go out and kite, get some sun and remember what this is all about.

Totally agree! Take your ladies out for dinner. People talk so much on here, but in person shake hands and exchange kisses on the cheeks..sheesh. So much hostility. Mother nature is kindly going to show us some wind love this weekend, let's show some love for each other.
