I went out on the R2 16.5 after being out on my 04 Outrage 17. I found the kite to be very fast turning, especially compared to the OR. However, the wind had lightened up considerably, so I didn't get much of a feel for how it rode powered up.
Unlike the OR, which can be quite powered even in light wind (i.e., no need to sine it -- which is good, since it is pretty slow turning) the R2 seemed to need to be cranked more in the light wind that I rode it in. Still, it is so easy to turn that this wasn't a problem at all. Having just rode the OR, which pulls like a tractor, the difference was really dramatic.
Bar pressure is very light, especially with the CC bar. Combined with the speed of the kite, it was amazing to me to see such a large kite moving so quickly with so little effort.
The few moments(gusts) that the wind came up enough to get powered, the kite seemed very stable and the transition from ebb to gust was very smooth, not jerky.
BTW, this was my first time riding at Berkeley, so I was spending most of my attention trying to stay away from the freeway. The light wind didn't help. Everyone else got much farther upwind on this kite than I did.

Man I wish I was there to see them. I have a girlfriend who is unfortunately allergic to kites and beaches! Kidding.
So I want to know, obviously, how they differ from the xbow. Bar pressure? Is it a 1 pump? Less wrinkles when not fully powered up? Depower convenience?
Ollie, have you flown the xbow yet? I assume yes. If not you are welcome to try mine if I can try yours.

Charlie, you are too kind. And you have not changed at all either. Yup, that Rap 1 was a 15, the only 12 out there was the Rap2. Ollie made it look a lot better than I did, but the fact that mediocre me could make it go in that light wind is almost a better testament -- Ollie can make anything look good I bet.

Bummed I missed it.
I have a 16 Rap2 on the way...anyday.
Curious
This will be my light wind kite.
At 185lbs, and on a Jimmy lewis 145 what would you say is the low end of that 16.5...any ideas...10mph?. I had a 21 Nemisis...sold it & I had the 17 OR and sold it also.fine kites but slow.
Trying to figure out if these bow kites are low wind fun (mainly for vacation, low wind here means go golf). not worried about highwind, overpowered on a bow kite sounds killer. the low end is what I hope to hear about and sounds like yesterday was the day not to miss...I missed.
Thanks
PS
Wilzone, how long in cabo, and where. how to reach you?
