You may choose your destiny-- WE CHOOSE JACK or BACARDI or SMIRNOFF.
Coke is ok by me. When giving gifts however, think of your recipient. Make it at least 50%. Otherwise it burn my nose.

But really if you sell your gear... that would suck. As any kiter knows...
KEEP THE STOKE ALIVE!! don;t back out. I have two blown knees, two blown discs and a dislocating shoulder. Does that stop me? NO! I go and go. I'm probably 2x your age at 40.

Nike coined the phrase.....Just Do IT!

Hey Andre, don't let this get you down. Keep your stuff and try again, maybe at a less crowded beach.

I felt like a kook up in the gorge this week. First launch a lady launches me before my thumbs up and my bridle is twisted. Get it down safely, fixed and on my second launch i am at the waters edge and my strap gets stuck all the way depowered on my 06 waroo. It is at the limit of my 9m and me tugging on the front lines makes the kite invert and crash on the beach right next to someone. He proceeds to bitch and moan how i have no business kiting. I then go out and jump twice as high as his ass and throw more stoke out there than him. Of course then my leading edge explodes and i have a 30 min swim in; humbling me to say the least.

No one hurt and i live to kite again. This is a humbling sport indeed. Don't give up.

If you wanna see some reak kooks go kite the spit in Hood River. Will give you a whole new appreciation for dealing with beginners. There isn't even any broken bones or dragging against dry land in your story. Bah.

Hope to see you on the water again soon.

Dan

2nd that on the beginners in Hood River. It was eye opening to say the least. The top prize though goes to Belmont in LA. Just completely dumbfounding. 60 beginners in front a beach of sunbathers....

Andre, your next session you'll probably land some new trick or maybe help someone using your newly acquired first hand experience and it will all be behind you.

Yeah, you guys are right. No one got hurt, no gear was lost. But damn, it sure was embarrasing. I discovered a slow leak in the leading edge, so I think that may have affected my kiting that day (besides the fact that I need more practice).

One thing is for sure, the bay area kiting community is great. Thanks for the reassurance, poems, and crack ho's :-) I don't take any offense to people saying I need more practice. Its true. Just wanted to own up to my mistake and hopefully prevent further kook activity from happening (although as fast as this sport is growing, I'm sure there will be other "events" like this).

oh, one last question.... do people not wear leashes w/ bows? Whats the deal with that? Hopefully discussion about this topic could prevent runaway kites in the future.

Not using a leash is yet another mistake, regardless of the type of kite. I had a miserable outing last year when I made the mistake of going out leashless.

How did you end up releasing the other guy's kite? Are you asking because he was the guy going leashless? There are bar/lines in the past that have been advertised, falsely, of being leash-optional - but when their quick releases pop accidentally you go "hmmm".
