Me too, sorry for hijacking the thread and butting heads on the water toy location. :angry-soapbox: :text-threadjacked:

Don't give up LMG you are our only hope! We still have tons of PVC waiting for you. 3rd just sucks for a slider. You really need flat water and less tidal action. Once its done we can have a photo competition.

Re: Amateur kiteboarding competitions
Those of you who know me know that I probably spend about 3/4 of my Sherman kiting time out behind the 2nd island. I sometimes like to think of it as my very own personal big-air boosting, butter-smooth flat water F16 launch and land pad, tule and sand-spit jumping playground, where my other kiting buddies stop by from time to time to visit and enjoy one of the truly special kiting spots in the Bay Area. So naturally, I am completely opposed to the idea of any kind of kicker or slider cluttering up the place and getting in the way of the fun. NOT!
Actually, I've never really felt that the kickers in the last couple of seasons, or the various occasional sliders that came from who knows where in even further years past, as a problem. Even though I've never hit the kicker (actually, I did hit it once, unintentionally), I still think it's a great addition to the Sherman scene. And like it or not, THE BEST place for it is indeed behind the 2nd island, for various reasons - it's the flattest significant stretch of water around, the wind is usually good there (for some reason it's substantially more crappy behind the 3rd island), and and least during low to mid tide there's still enough beach at the island for a small crowd to hang out and watch (or shoot) kicker/slider action that can't be seen anywhere else in the Bay Area.
So, if you can get a consensus for putting it somewhere else, go for it. But my vote is for the 2nd island. Not off to the side of the island, or in a channel cut through the tules, but right smack dab in the middle of the leeward side of the island, just off the beach.
Just my opinion.
P.S. Aside from any controversy on where to put the toys, I want to give a HUGE shout out to LMG for taking the initiative, effort, and financial burden to build them for our enjoyment. =D>

Re: Amateur kiteboarding competitions
I'm sorry to have dampened any spirit of support for the watertoys, wasn't my intention at all. A question like "Does it have to specifically be there?" might get a better response than a statement like "Some don't want it there!" so I can work on my PR skills in the future...
No more opinions here, out...

Ollie, like I just PM'd you, don't stop voicing opinions -- it's what the forum is all about.
Maybe we should have a poll on this issue, and let the majority decide.
Or maybe you and I should just settle this out on the water... :violence-guntoting: :violence-pistoldouble: :violence-hammer: :violence-duel:

Re: Amateur kiteboarding competitions
I was watch'n Blue Velvet- reel'n for the love letter scene!!
When I suddenly awoke to the sounds of Robins and love was in the air!
Dam! I didn't get to see a drop of blood! (missed 3/4 of the movie)
So now that I'm a little more rested :) :)
What the Hell do you guys want to do?
The biggest downside to putting the kicker behind 3ed island is thats the only deep water landing area for large boats.
Doing a nice LOOONG slider over the Tullies would be fun  and out of the way for regular riding =D> =D>
All I know is the water needs to be flat and the angles need to be near perfect for good wake toys to even be fun... I suppose we can put the stuff anywhere but setting it correctly might be really hard in deeper water that is subjected to currents-

Re: Amateur kiteboarding competitions
Well, they should be put in the best place for them with the conditions needed for them, wherever that may be, if it's the second island so be it. We'll go around it and still have fun. If it's warm and windy, life's good...
Yesterday I rode up to 3rd island area and it's a bit farther up, and even though yesterday was SW, the wind up there is just not as good as second island....
