I second that. I LOVE my Caution 6'0" (I'm 6'3"). I rode strapped for a half season before I set her free. Now I'll never go back. Bomber construction and carves the hell out of the bay (i'm just now venturing out into the ocean).

Re: Directional board recommendations
if you want custom..
My surf style/kite specific boards ride waves pretty good but they really excel in the Bay, the main differance is my rocker line is flatter for fast/easy ride and my fin toe setting is 3 degree's instead of the standard 6 for surfboards. My hand glassed/ vacuum-bagged/epoxy lay-up is way more bomber but pretty/glossy sticks ante' my thing.. $600 squid will get you a Getto-Quad that every punk in your hood will try to steal!

Check out what these guys ride, lots of good information on surfboards converted to kiting, if you want to put straps, then just slap a set of NSI pads.

Litewave 5'8" quad-fin is built like a surf-tech, expoxy sandwich...very strong and an excellent Nor-cal design for surf riding. Also very reasonably priced.

I beat the crap out of my Litewave 5'8" quad - it is pretty much the only board I ride. Still looks, feels new, total all terrain.

Re: Directional board recommendations
The jury is NOT out on quad vs. thruster: if you want a well tracking board, that emulates carving of a surf board, go thruster. Got to any good wave riding spot and observe: 99% of riders are on thrusters.
Jury has voted.

Kinda like the jury has voted on 4 line kites vs. 5 lines. :-"
