Hey, for some reason or another we all have had our sessions inside the buoys.
I try to steer clear from the launch and beach area for most of my sessions, every once in a while sneaking in for a couple hits off the nice inside ramps. Sometimes with a flood it is hard for anyone to get out of the buoy zone. Either way, I haven't seen a lot of kites come flying into the launch (some drifting in) and I wasn't around this weekend to see the mishap.
I say, if the reason you want to kite inside the buoys is so everyone can see you, why risk it? Something will eventually go wrong...take it from someone who's been through the bushes more than once in the last 6 years.
If you really want to show your friends your moves up close, pay a video/still guy like me for a day and get all your moves shot from all angles, including the water. Get a DVD to show your friends from the safety of your living room or RV.
I'm serious. Think about it...
By the way...I love the sound of a kitelooping with nobody around.

Expression session
I love Gabe's idea! Each "participant" throws in $20, we get a Vid/still set up at the Thules, with Jet ski support, and throw down hard. At night, we project the vid/pictures on the back of a moho, and the crowd - properly mentally adjusted - votes for the winner. We can also have categories (best attempt, sickest wipeout, cleanest landing, biggest dangle, etc.)
Sounds like a win win:
* safe for beach users, of who I am one, and I would hate to see a powered up kite tangling my son - I will get bent out of shape if this happens.....
* Thules have the best wind
* Thules have the best butter for loading up and sending
* Thules are a great place to shoot
* Evening judging will enable all kiters to vote, so that they don't have to miss good kiting during contest....
* Evening time is good times on the island, and what is more fun then watching the day's action w/your bros and a cold whatever???
While watching is fun, I'm with Gabe....the sound of a kiteloop is intoxicating, no matter if anyone can hear it....the sound of your board laying down a fast bottom turn and smacking the lip is sick - no one else has to see/hear it for it to be incredible.
Get some, Z.

Hey I resemble that remark!!stevegoble wrote:Ho-Chi-Min is the wayt to go you guys! There are no saftey bouys to get tangled in or to stay outside of. The only people on the beach will be there to watch and film, they will be aware and watching. No unaware bystanders. This will keep kite beach open and safe for the people who don't care about your dangerous moves. Maybe post a sign at the beach to let people know when and where. We should set a good example for new people by keeping saftey a priority. [glow=red]More and more intermediates think its OK to throw down in front of the beach. [/glow] Let's not encourage this. Go big, stay safe, I'll be there with my camara. Go Ho Chi Min!!!
(but not on weekends)

Lets line the beach with pungy sticks and razor wire to up the ante'.
Anyone rider seen riding more then a line lenght away from shore during the contest gets stoned (pelted with rocks).
The winner gets to keep all the other riders gear (loosers get a penility for being such pussy's)
OOPs' I did it again!
Have fun- I'm OUT!

While this seems like a prudent course of action, and would certainly solve our little dillemma, I think it may present a liability issue. I'll run it up the ol' flagpole at the next RVWA meeting and see who salutes.Lets line the beach with pungy sticks and razor wire to up the ante'.

"For the rest of ya, I am still inside the bouys , BEEOTCHS ! "
I do not really know how to do the real quote, as it is from a different thread...Now, I am guilty as charged, and my son is worse, but I for one am always happy to see the above poster throwing his moves inside the bouys...yeah, he will drop his kite occasionaly with some of his unhooked stuff, but he is always fun to watch, and will pick his moments to pop and avoid pinning others on the beach getting in and out....What's wrong with dat? Or - here is another solution....Do not let anybody hang out at the beach watching.....no audience, no concert...

Thank God someone said it? Thank you for stepping up to the plate. It's starting to sound like Alameda!! it's not it's SI. There are dangers in kiting, that's why we like it. If it was too safe Pu$$ys would be flooding our beaches. Are we to late?"For the rest of ya, I am still inside the bouys , BEEOTCHS ! "

PS. I know why Alameda needs so many rules, but at SI we are all kiters with the exception on the Mexican familys that have a BBQ and play soccer in the launch.
Did I go to far? I never know.
