Its sad to me the windsurfer beaches look kinda normal but the kite beach has carpet every where, stacked logs (to prevent erosion) and people wanting to chop more bushes out and make new trails, look how deep the carpet launch area is already and if you go there in the winter it floods like a swamp. eventully a lot of this beach will change it sure has since the first trail they cut out of the blackberry bushes years ago. So please, everybody go kite some where else till the bushes grow back

Rule #1 of kite surfing: DO NOT ENDANGER or PISS OFF BEACH GOERS
####### I know I said that but never knew that it would boomerang back to me so fast
On Sunday, yesterday, there was a large family (in term of the number of people and their weight) occupied pretty much 100% of the launch area and had a hot grilled BBQ & picnic right there right next to the water line. Need less to say, their kids and siblings were swimming in & out from their BBQ spot on the beach, basically blocking pretty much all available access lanes for the kiters. We really had to body drag way out before we could water start and with the wind blowing straight on-shore, occasionally some of us were missing the swimmers by 5 - 10 feet .
That + some beginner kid kept crashing his black/red Wainman kite right on the tiny beach/launch area + a hot-shot/advanced kiter on his North Vegas splitting, weaving in and out between the swimmers at full speed made yesterday a scene to remember.

Re: Beach-goers at Sherman Island
It's getting surreal there.
Perhaps we should get beach monitors with official-looking shirts and hats and whistles, sort of like in Hood River where local volunteers won't let families with kids onto the sandbar during peak kiting times. SIKO should organize it, and I would be willing to take an hour stint here and there.
I'm sympathetic to the swimmers, as they have just about as slim pickings for swim beaches as kiters for launches, but having someone keeping access lanes open to kiters and enforcing kiter etiquette wouldn't burden the beach-goers too much.

How about some orange cones? Set a few of those up, might be enough to deter the landlubbers

Re: Beach-goers at Sherman Island
how about less discussion and more kiting... we're doing good so far.
Just keep being mindful of swimmers and beach-goers.
as every other totally redundant alarmist thread on BAKB, most kiters don't read this forum so its not US that WE have to worry about.
Oh wait, i meant to say - TT ban at Sherman so less tricks and air will be pulled next to swimmers and beach goers potentially endangering our kite spot guuuurrrrrr!!
