Good Q re self-launch & landing. Like cleepa says, you can self-launch easily by putting your surfboard on the LE and pulling the kite out from underneath as you begin to launch. Self-landing can be done but is a bit risky as the kite can relaunch. I do sometimes self-land in a wind shadow and the run over to the kite, but I don't recommend this. Much better to land kite gently on its side & slip on a leash attached to a fixed object, so you can safely go over to the kite and land it under full control.
