I haven't made it down to Waddell yet, but this knowledge would certainly be handy if I ever made it down there.

I've noticed the windsurfers were often north of the kitesurfers so i would change that on the map. Body draggers should go downwind of the scene. Twintip area? No offence but was the map supposed to be a joke? IUYT

Ron's got a good sense of humor.
I'm waiting for Phil's version of this map, even if Erin's map made me laugh pretty hard.

I don't know if I can really beat my HMB Harbor Rider's Guide - Waddell would be a lot to take on...

I guess I was a little cranky when I wrote that response, but at least give me credit for breathing some life into this thread. Erin's map ROCKS!

There was nothing epic about Sunday. But my point was that there were people out on the water who could not stay upwind or turn.

Even if there are no waves, Waddell on the weekends is a crowded spot where people kite in close proximity to each other. Kiters who don't know how to fly their kite or what to do when another kiter is approaching them from the opposite direction or passing them from behind should not be there.

Bodydragging? I saw one guy who took ten minutes to get back to his board then was less than 20 feet away from him. And the whole time he was trying, he had his kite straight up in the air with people dodging him on both sides. (Every time I passed him I sang the theme from Jaws out loud :P )

My guess, based on overhearing the carpool of two guys and one girlfriend (one directional, two twintips) next to me in the parking lot, is that these newbies were brought there by friends who didn't take the time to explain the rules because they were too jonesing to get out on the water themselves.

Which is not cool, because even when there are no waves, Waddell is not a beginner spot to kite -- at least not on the weekends.

I think Sunday was the day I saw some guy bringing a twintip back in.....and he was WAY out there, too. I couldn't see anybody that was unattached to a board dragging around looking for it, so I thought hmmm, was the guy that belonged to the board eaten?........afterwards I heard he had spent like half an hour dragging around out there and couldn't find his board, finally just dragged in without it.

Twin tip or directional, I know I feel like God is trolling with me as bait when I'm bodydragging out there. You couldn't devise a more tempting morsel for a great white, I don't think.

Hell, my butt tingles when I'm waterstarting outside....being the last thing that clears the water. I really don't like it when I'm not on my board. If I weren't confident about making my jibes, I don't think I'd be going out there at all. Honestly. Not trying to put folks off from going out there. Really.

But(t) seriously......this is the time of year when the great whites are returning from their migration, so it should be expected that sightings within the Red Triangle will increase in the period now through November....and Erin's map ain't joking when he labels that area around Ano Nuevo "shark feeding area".....they're hungry after all that traveling.......
