I do agree with you that it's a bad idea to fly a kite in the parking lot, for obvious reasons.

not sure how you got an exception ...

I dont have an exception but consider this...

1. The potential for major accidents for the big kites while walking them in and out of cars is huge. There is no plan B... Regardless if there is a trainer kite in the air or not.

2. I dont fly the trainer kite where the water kites are launching or landing, the paths or at the water launch.

3. Yes, kites tangle, I am not angry about that, just was a little upset for someone putting themselves in a position of potential big risk. It was unsafe.

Is it not obvious the difference between a trainer and a full sized kite. Bored today serge? Don't be a troll

Most folks that fly trainer kites in the parking lot at Sherman on skateboards either are experienced kiters or they don't have their kite very long. It is either trashed by trees or confiscated by irate people who don't like getting crashed upon. Having said that, it seems there's always somebody cruising around and I don't recall that it's ever been any problem......so I don't know why anybody should be harping on anybody for doing that if they know what they're doing.

Flying a regular kite in the parking lot is a different story. Every once in awhile you'll see somebody get trapped down on the windsurfing beach on a flood, and there's enough wind to walk the kite back up the road. Not a good idea but neither is landing a kite in the middle of windsurfers.

Pet peeve of mine is what Greg was talking about which is people doing a duh about rigging and leaving the kite in the middle of the launch, which is sort of like the comment that started this thread in the first place. It's one thing if it's early and there's nobody around, but I've seen kites out there for hours at a time while some yoyo is doing whatever. Pisses me off when I need to bring the kite down on a south wind day.

I suggest that if you see somebody do that, just pull their friggin' kite off to the side of the launch area. They'll likely get testy but honestly it seems like it just gets worse every year. The only way to deal with it is for people that use the spot regularly to have a consistent way of dealing with it.

Most of the time I just grumble about it but sometimes I'll move the kite and usually get some attitude about it. I think I'll just start saying WTF and moving em all the time at the risk of becoming a kite valet. Damn kids........raised in a barn or what???????

I used to do that , windsurf on a skateboard still have the rig....
Would be Interesting to know who was on starboard
Who was upwind?

..
.just

Kidding....

.
.
But ya if you let this and other bad kiting behavior continue
that is what will be the normal
ie....
Parking in the launch zone
it has a domino affect....
pushs kites out of the launch window
causing havoc and injuries

Same as takeing the L.Z. ie
when your not in your wet suit

over
and
over
again
