I want to mention something about overall attitude.....

What I hear a lot from people that are visiting is that they're impressed by how good the vibe is....everybody is having a good time, and willing to help out when needed. Even the folks that are there all the time don't put out a localism attitude.

I know previous post by consumer was a jk thing about traffic.... but what can mess up the good times is people who think their kiting ability somehow gives them license to be a jerk, and therefore entitled not to be considerate of others. It hit a nerve to make light of the need to follow some general guidelines, even if they're unwritten ones.

I know a lot of my postings are kind of negative but I'm just venting. I have a good time every time I go out, and I'd like to see the overall positive vibe continue. I do get irritated when I see people being inconsiderate, though.

Inconsideration in this sport usually implies putting somebody else at risk.

I think we do a pretty good job of letting people know when they're being inconsiderate....and that's a good thing to do in the interest of keeping it positive even when it's super crowded.

a general attitude for not launching someone, and asking those you know to do the same, is a slow but generally effective way to get the point across without getting into a useless shouting match.
Young punks usually either get smart or get themselves hurt. Bad attitudes run out of friends who will help them launch.

Well said!!.. Attitude can set the the "Vibe" at any launch site.. If you take the time to talk and high five every kiter? not just Hello bro's. That person will feel your "Stoke" and will respect what you have to say, with that said.. if you "Stink Eye" or yell and call him or her a dumb-newbe-jack-ass, unsafe, do this, don't do that?.. can't you read the sign!! That same person will find a way to deal with the hate.. as it is only human to want to belong, and if you want to be safe while your kiting next to them?? make them your new found newbe bro.. remember that guy or gal when you were a NEWBE ?? NICE!!!!

there's a very simple solution to the "stack your kites" problem

MOVE THE KITES.

in 30 seconds one person can singlehandedly clean up the entire launch. take all the kites that aren't stacked nicely next to each other and move them. sure, sometimes people get annoyed because their lines got screwed up...but then, sorry buddy, your lines shoudn't be stretched out to begin with unless you're actively launching.

and i know, in an ideal world, everyone would do this themselves, but the reality is, there are a lot of non-locals that kite sherman on weekends and they probably just don't understand. i don't fault them.

so, after my session, i go around and move all the kites i can find that aren't being actively attended to. not very hard.

You should start pumping your kites up in front of the people's car/trailer that leave their kites out. When they ask WTF? just say "there was no room at the launch because your kite was in the way...sorry."

I agree with adam. If you need space to launch make space. Personally, I decided to launch and land near the exit path where there was tons of space, but on a high tide at 3rd if there is no space to launch i stack kites until there is.

As for crowds behind the island.......IMO thats the place to learn and throw tricks....if you are short tacking the flat water and just mowing the lawn you should expect someone to crash their kite in front of you......If you are throwing down as well its not that hard to ride around a fallen kite and then go for it again on another pass. Its windy 24/7, 1 min lost is really no big deal.

I agree with Ramsey...there only a few places where people really try and throw down at Sherman. If you are short tacking and mowing the lawn in these places, expect people throwing down, and usually crashing, around in front and over you.

The people who do push the tricks expect it. You should too if you want to kite where it is happening. I never get mad when someone almost takes me out because I have almost taken a few people out.
