Has anybody tried to rig a gopro on the kite itself?

Clint put it on his kite last year and it came out pretty good but if you crash the kite, the camera angle changes and you might be capturing the wrong image.

yeah, for the kite the camrig works best.

Wade, if you want to borrow my setup you are mroe thanwelcome to try it out. I have the pentax w20 and a 4 gig card, it is good for a solid hour. i just never use it for that anymore.

The newer GoPro's with the 170 degree wide angle lens won't offer good shots from the kite. It's too far from the rider at that point, and the wide angle makes it look like you have 1,000 ft lines.

It is excellent for the upclose shots, though. Here are a couple still shots. One from board angle, the other from the bar.

Yeah, I wouldnt want the wide angle either as I would use it for video of riding my dirtbike. The footage I have seen taken with the wide angle doesnt come close to showing how steep some of the trails are, it makes them all look flat! What fun is that? But it does have its place.
