also, keep in mind thatthe sensor doesnt read correctly from the south. I forget exactly which way it is off but you are better off looking on the cam to see if others are out.

If south west is on-shore, wouldn't south east be side-off? If it's blowing south west at 3rd it would be side-off and if it's south east then it's side-on (although we would be kiting south of the san mateo bridge).

No one who doesn't know how to go upwind, and stay upwind -- all the time, not just some of the time -- should be out kiting in storm winds!

No one who needs a GoJoe or a board leash should be out in storm winds, either.

There is nothing predictable about kiting in a storm. It can be great, it can be absolutely horrible, and everything in between -- all in the same session.

As the locals will tell you, if you wait for the sensor at Alameda to pop, it'll probably be over by the time you get there -- at least during a storm. Clearing winds are the best bet (like Yuri said, they are really post-storm) for winter kiting, look for NW15-25 in the forecast.

Thanks, guys.

Max, that's one hell of an offer, you are a true buddy (especially in a storm, so to speak)
you are better off looking on the cam to see if others are out.
we're talking about the Kite Wind Surf webcam, right?

No one who needs a GoJoe
Ok - I am missing the point here (leash totally understandable), but a GoJoe?

it's not the Gojoe itself but more the the rider's experience that it represents. but you knew that :)

NW Clearing winds from this round of storms won't show up until Monday afternoon or Tuesday at the earliest, as there are several low pressure systems lined up waiting to hit us between then and now.

SE is side shore from one direction at Alameda, S is side-on, SW onshore, SSW side-on from the other direction, WNW is sideshore from the other direction. It's true that you can kite Alameda in more different directions than any other kite beach in Norcal.
