yah, and I go 55 mph pretty frequently too. you all probably didn't notice because i was going so fast...

on a more serious note, Jay Runge is the mayor of 3rd ave. Everyone knows this. He even has a bench at 3rd proclaiming that. To say anything otherwise is pretty poor form, especially considering that Jay is no longer with us...

it's even on the bottom of the 3rd ave webcam page: http://poulton.net/windsurf/3rdcam/3rdcamh.shtml

I agree, Jay rescued a lot of gear and people at 3rd over the 15+ years he was there.
Lots of folks at 3rd are asking me who Bill Tai is.

Anything to get PR I guess....

I'm sorry, but who is this Bill Tai guy ?????

I'm fairly new with kiteboarding, this being my second season, but Jay Runge is a familiar name. I keep hearing his name from my wind surfing friends who are my long time surfing buddies. Is he trying to buy respect? Sorry, not trying to burn the guy, just trying to sort out the truth about him.

I heard this Bill guy went to Waddell a couple of times and is now the mayor there also.

"For Tai, a former windsurfer, kiteboarding is serious business. He does 1,200 sit-ups every morning to stay in shape: four sets of 300 while watching CNBC before the stock market opens, sprinting through e-mail between sets."

Can anybody do that? All joking aside, if true, that's amazing!

The article does come across as a bit over the top overall though I would agree that it is good exposure. A post on iKite a short time ago didn't have glowing reviews by locals of the MaiTai crews etiquette at local launches during their visit...hmmm.

"It's similar to working in a start-up. You have tremendous raw talent that you have to harness in such a way to achieve great things."

Whatever it takes to stay upwind! Just joking... They sound OK, but as Jon said, it's PR piece. But Bay Area Kiteboarding is looking for VC funding. We don't have a business plan or make any money, but I don't think that matters too much, does it?
