I have heard from another guy pretty much the same thing. If I go to college in Utah I might get into it, supposedly a lot better there.
I was planning on snow-kiting in Lake Tahoe, ski with my family, do some backcountry, when there is wind kite.

and LMG, what other gear would I need for snowkiting other then a kite and harness???? I wrote that I have all the other equipment, which is true, yes I wear a helmet when I ski.

I was just suprised when he said helmet for the water, very wide open (no trees etc.) so I was just asking if it was really necessary

snowkiting just looked so awsome, rip around in 2 feet of powder in the backcountry, launch up 20 feet into the air, go up hill, put your kite in the bag and on your back, and ski down.

also I am not much of a "boarder" I have been skiing since I was two, and have done a lot of other sports, but never got into skating, wakeboarding or something. Has anyone tried tried to kite with some pimped out water skies???

I don't know if this matters, but I used to sail a bunch, so I know how the wind works (sounds stupid, like lifts, holes, shifts etc.) from that

Yes, helmet for water too. One thing is take offs and landings which happen on land, in many beaches near rocks.
Second is that I face planted on a wakeboard once so hard I had a hangover for two days. I don't know if kiteboarding causes the same impact and if a helmet really helps, but I also don't want to try and find out. So I wear a helmet on the water too just for that memory.
Third your head can hit the board when you fall. So if you wear a board leash, you must wear a helmet on the water no questions.
Its really cheap comparing to the rest of the gear and the startup cost. So play safe. "Kite wind surfs" sells helmets at cost, cheap and worth it.

Kiting can be fun and safe if you are aware of the safety issues involved in the sport. Posting for help and information is the first step.

Check out the Florida web site, a compilation of kiting accidents and analysis of what went wrong and what could have been done to prevent the situation.

Have fun out there.
