Yes, but think about it. Have car packed ready to go anyway, look outside and see some great conditions, leave the office to go to an "off site meeting". Catch some wicked wind, head back to the office from your "meeting" - all in a days work.

Can't do that when working 15 mins away..........

I stand my ground, working that close rocks!

you 3rd people at least have wind most of the time during the season. I live 50 ft from Alameda beach but that doesnt mean anything but a good view. You need to get a job working as a house cleaner for one of those homes at sherman island. Now that would be the shit!

All this moaning about kite distances. If you all wanted to be kiting so bad, you'd start your own Real Kiteboarding, hire a bunch of instructors so you don't have to teach, and do gear testing all afternoon. Toss in a couple key location resorts for your base camps and .... wait.... sounds like a business plan...

I nearly ended up in Venezuela last week. I kited in Aruba which was awesome - thanks to those who gave travelling advice. The problem was the wind was completely off shore, it was a light day, a little too light for my 9 meter, but that was all i had. There was no way i could stay upwind (still a learner) and ended out a long way out at sea. Luckily they have a very nice pick up boat servie which was very handy for me. Apparently Venezuela is only about 15 miles from Aruba, so i think i was almost there!!!!

So endlestorm, did you take the job?

Waiting to hear back from Genentech. If they say no, Gilead is certain, if they say yes, things get more complicated. But either way, I'll have $$$ for new kites =)

There are some little beaches below the riprap, but the wind blows very offshore there, as its right in the San Bruno gap. Seems like you might know more than me?

My GF mentioned that. She is in the same biz and also windsurfs with colleagues from her current work. That area around South San Francisco is offshore wind normally, but I have seen people windsurf there in candlestick many times. Supposed to be glass.
