It's rather comical reading some of the trash that those less able write in order to make up for their deficiencies. If you spent more time working on your ineptitude on the water, and less time writing your clearly jealous remarks of others abilities, you might then rise to the level to which your dreams are made of.
Most of us able kiters log on to this format as a means of getting a good laugh because of the garbage those less experienced write about. One would think you would show a little more pride in what you can and can't do, but there's not accounting for those who come from the East Bay with the skill level to which you exude.

Speaking of "the line," I'd love to know more about the "rules" of this. I can't seem to figure it out at Sherman at all. I want to ride and do unhooked tricks by the beach for two reasons, 1. so people can see if I land it :) and 2. so that if something drastically goes wrong I am able to come in quickly. But it seems like everyone else does the same thing, too.
So when I'm going port, which is my strong side and someone is coming starborad there is always a "conflict" in who goes where/what. I know Starboard has the right of way but then I always see someone come in from behind both of us doing a big jump and landing right in the middle of both riders. So, when it's busy it's difficult to ride. Lately I've been going more upwind and trying tricks there which gives me more room but a longer swim in if anything goes wrong.
Since you were talking about the "unspoken" rule I thought it might be nice to discuss them a bit? Maybe this warrants a new thread?
At 3rd I notice this is less of a problem becuase there is SO much room to ride. I like riding upwind of the upper launch where usually only a handful of people go.

I think you put far too much time thinking this through grumpy and your writing, while colorful, has absolutely nothing to do with what wh is talking about. I don't really care what anybody does in the jumping area or why YOU log into this 'format'?. I only care about what I do, regardless of how skillful or skillless it is and it would be great if I had my turn without some monkey cutting me off eleventeen times. It's a matter of common courtesy, nothing else.

This might be a good idea. It doesn't need to be an expensive deal perhaps an old laundry detergent container tied to a coffee can filled with concrete. at least we will have something to shoot for instead of just counting to 100. I'm sure some people will count like a auctioneer and others will be courteous and count slowly. just a thought!!!windhorny wrote: Perhaps we need a buoy out a little ways that forces people to go around it before heading back in.

THere are certainly more important things to worry about, for example..
Ed was seen riding a razor scooter tonight waaaaaay too stoned. Someone could get hurt.
And to clarify, "kiter formerly known as panzerfaust", you were not the guy on the vegas I was referring to. And is there anyway to abbreviate this with a symbol? Howabout ~*~

the starboard rider should maintain their course. if you can pass safely upwind of them, raise your kite and do so, otherwise lower your kite and yield downwind. the jumper landing in the middle has yielded right of way to both of you and should change his course (probably heading straight downwind) to avoid both of yours. i know you know this already; there's just no reason the simple right of way rules wouldn't apply, even if it means you can't throw the trick you were setting up for.Speaking of "the line," I'd love to know more about the "rules" of this. going more upwind is the way to go - especially when it's crowded. the inconvenience of spending 10-15 minutes getting up there is definitely offset by the breathing room; you might get in 4 or 5 tricks each port tack, whereas in the crowd in front of the beach you might only get one opening per tack, if that. and the increase in risk from a longer swim if something goes wrong is almost certainly more than offset by the much bigger downwind safety buffer between you and land and the decrease in risk to the other kiters who are launching and landing from the beach.

"Yuri, that carpool lane metaphor is great. I was talking to a guy the other day who told me about his "secret" for getting through the Hwy. 24 tunnel more quickly; to get off at the 2nd to last exit and jump the line by coming in at the last entrance before the tunnel."
Anybody that goes through the tunnel in the afternoon gets peeved at these guys.
I think we should put a sign up that talks about a $300 fine for barging, and then put up a fake camera on a pole to make people think twice about doing it.
I'm also thinking that Grumpy is one of the guys that barges, and is trying too hard to live up to his name. I'd say maybe he needs to get more time on the water, but I'm not sure that's going to do it for him (or anybody else).
