Gideon:

It was a Big Air contest -- however you get that is all the better. Ever seen the X-Games -- you know those Big Air trick sets they do? Tony Hawk doing a 900? Same thing here. But, since you have a problem with sports using "judged scores" I guess all that isn't worthy.

If two sports merge somehow because people are pushing the envelope, all the better -- you are riding a kite with a thing that looks like a wakeboard/surfboard right? Did two or more sports merge there?

Do you think you would be kiting if wakeboarding, surfing, paragliding, water skiing, etc. didn't exist already? So next time you have a really good day kiting, thank all those sports that existed before kiteboarding for lending their design, techniques, and *record setters* to the sport you now enjoy.

BTW, WTF is this (don't watch if you object to hybrid extreme sports -- this just won't make no sense)

Tony Hawk's 900 blows that bobbing 22 second jump away. Just my opinion, take it for what it is. It seems I've struck a REALLY raw nerve here, and that nobody agrees I have a valid point. I guess time will tell.

Cheers,

Gideon

GL:
"Finally, I want kiteboarding competitions to be as serious and successful as possible over the long-run, and for me that means meaningful competitions. Will "longest hangtime" make it as a meaningful competition? Mere curiosities in sport don't have staying power."
"Keeping it real..."

ALL CRAP!

BIG AIR and HANG TIME contests have been with the sport of kiteboarding since the beginning..ever heard or attended the Red Bull King of the Air? ( and don't post some crap about it not being around anymore.). And big air and hang time were and are what attracts/attracted many to the sport. Could go on but you are not worth it.

Jesse's jump was REAL! It was in a contest, it was witnesses by many who who appreciated what he did and recognized it was something special. And it was safe and there is nothing wrong with others attempting to duplicate

Snowkite jumping, hang gliding, skateboarding (T Hawk) are all cool, but have NOTHING to do with this post. I suppose next you make a reference to flying around the world in an air plane or baloon..now that hangtime!

And on a personal note. I made no attempt to drive traffic to "my" website by the post. The video is up on "my website"...actually my wife's, but I made no reference to it. I only made references to other websites where interested individual could view it! Shows how little you know!

Anyone know who jumped at around 0:45 in this video? Seems like whoever it is got a nice little boost from the fog!

http://youtube.com/watch?v=muKcgKMFYb4

I don't think this is the same jump (Jesse's) that everyone is talking about. Why is no one tallking about this one? If it is Jesse, I guess he got some practice for that other jump before the fog cleared that day.

It seems like that jump was around 45 seconds, if the video wasn't slowed down.

Either way it was killer seeing Jesse's jump in person. Can't wait for next year's contest!

What site might that be?

The only links previously mentioned were to Jesse's,Cabrinha and YouTube.

But just for you Gideon, SEE IT HERE .

I suspected that when I saw the jet ski go by. But since it wasn't in the video I didn't know for sure.

Thanks for the reply.

Steve has a great point. Apples to Apples bro. Keep them oranges off the table. Let's not get off the subject, we are talking kiteboarding here. I am almost certain they have hang gliding forums out there is cyber space.

And until you can get 22+ seconds of hang time, any thing you say has the taste and sound of sour grapes. Until then, enjoy yourself.
