Give the guy a break, riverrat... I mean, who hasn't released someone else's kite by mistake when they're trying to pull their own release.
Today at Sherman some kook managed to tie half of his own lines to his kite and half of someone elses lines to the other side.

So stop running into them and it will stay that way.average_male wrote:
The folks at 3rd ave are the nices people you could hope to run into.
Seriously though - the guy who released his kite and took someone else out - I knew someone who got killed like this, dragged with two kites headfirst into a seawall. And this guy says he took out a windsurfer? WTF? I guess at some level there has to be a limit where you say someone is not good enough to kite in a particular location. I agree with the previous comment - he needs to go somewhere where there is no-one around and figure it all out. Or get better instruction. Or something. We're all being jocular about it now - ha ha, what a kook, but this sets off alarm bells to me.

Man you folks are being unreasonably harsh IMHO. I surely hope that NONE of you who are bad-mouthing this guy and his crappy day EVER have need of assistance. I'm currently in the Gorge and have repeatedly seen kiters (and even a tugboat pilot) help their fellow kiters get out of bad jams. Some of these kiters were beginners and some were highly seasoned veterans. Shit goes bad even to good people. The bottom line (and I think Andre got it right) thank your rescuers profusely, offer them the beverage of their choice (whatever it may be) and, hopefully, learn from the mistake.

I think we should enforce the death penalty! Unless you can prove it was not your fault you go directly to kite kourt!
"All stand, the honorable judge Ollie is entering the room"
"Do you swear that you upheld right of way, and didnt attempt to loop your kite just for purposes of showing off?"
"I do"
"Would the defense like to say anything?"
"Nope"
"We, BAK jury, have decided that based on past similar issues, the defendant is not guilty."

You know I would hook up Sonny w/ a bottle of jack, but he doesn't drink! Coca cola is his spirit of choice. I'll be sending a check out for gas to Helm, you guys rock! and yeah, I'm a kook. I'm sorry to everyone I offended, harmed, or just plain annoyed out there. I don't know what else to say. It was an accident. I just truly want to say thanks for the people who helped out. I won't be out ruining people's good time anymore. I'm over it.
Anyone looking for some 06 vegas kites, 10m and 14m? Got a big ass light wind board (LF 151) and an older slingshot misfit 128 too. 06 bar w/ new 07 cleat, dakine seat harness, and o'neil impact vest. Would like to get rid o the whole rig, maybe to a newbie looking to get into the sport.

This is not a character attack on Andre. He said some very nice and appreciative things about his rescuers and those whom he negatively impacted and I am sure that he is a good person. However, I think there is some concern raised by Andre's littany of mistakes (taking out female windsurfer, kite wrap, panic induced release of other guy's kite that says something about his overall habits and skills as opposed to an isolated screw up. Taking out the windsurfer and the kite wrap are clear indications of lack of kite control and/or lack of awareness of one's surroundings. Hopefully, Andre realizes that it wasn't just a "bad day" as he characterized it. His series of mistakes is indicative of something deeper IMHO and he needs to put a 100% effort into fixing the problem.

Tom Petty said "some days are diamonds, some days are rough".......
don't let a rough day change your desire to get better at a really killer activity.......
Do what you gotta do.........
today is a new day, go and get some.....Z

WOW, Riverrat, you must Rock.(i'm assuming of course, that, from your first time ever, all of your launches, landings and rides have been flawlessly executed) the man said that he kooked, this does not necessarily mean that he is a kook. we are supposed to look at these events and figure out what went wrong and how to make it safer. as suggested, perhaps he needs more lessons, or more time with a trainer kite to hone kite control skills, find a less crowded place, try to get upwind and out of everyon'es way until he gets better, do a downwinder etc. with this sport gaining more and more kiters, it gets more difficult to keep out of everyone's way while you are trying to learn.
Andre, unless this sport really is not your bag baby, don't let one 'rat' keep you from doing it. it's a great sport with a lot of great people that want you to enjoy it.
so yuri, if there was a kite forum court, you'd be on Death Row. r
