I think kiters should look at stuff like this as a gift...

Wow, foreign kiteboarders with board leashes !!Bulldog wrote:Anyone who kited at Sherman this weekend knows that all those kooks who were at Crissy last weekend came right on over to the Delta this weekend. I havent' seen so many board leashes since last 4th of July. Lots of sitting on the beach with kites in the air staring at the lines. Bow kites dropping everywhere, hitting people (kiters, but still), three-way kite collisions, etc.
I'm guessing by the amount of French and German I heard (no offense to any BAKiters with accents) that our region has become a "destination spot" for kiter tourists from all over the state, country and world.
What a shame, there should be laws against these people.
Damn them. Sherman Island should be reserved to locals and board leashes will be forbidden.
Thanks for pointing the real issues !
Ced
(I'm one of those french-speaking kiters who uses a leash and was at Sherman this WE).
PS: I got your point about the popularity of SI Pablito, I just found it pretty aggressively said.

Maybe he said it a bit rough. Everyone is welcome no matter where your from, but bring the skills with you. Board leashes are a just a sign that the skills may not be there. On a busy weekend it is a bit crowded in a small launch, and you have to have your a game to get off the beach and weave through the obstacle course of kiters. Mid week is a better time to develop you skills. I didn't go out on a weekend my first year at SI.

Thanks Dewey, I appreciate your comment.
Weekdays are probably better but the problem is, I'm supposed to work during those...
BTW, I use a board leash cos I totally freaked out when I lost my brand new board one choppy day at 3rd. I probably don't need it anymore.
I had a great time at SI last weekend (first time), no glitch whatsoever, despite the crowd I actually found it quite easy.
I'll try to come on a weekday morning when I can ditch work and it's not nuking like it is right now, so watch out for me and my board leash !
:)

Official rules posted?
Are there official rules/guidelines clearly posted at Crissy (as well as warning bystanders)? I haven't ridden there, but good signage and comprehensive rules agreed-upon by the communitee are the minumum necessary to properly manage a popular kiteboarding beach in a populated area.
When something bad does happen--and eventually it will--the fact that rules/guidelines have been previously discussed, agreed, and posted is critical to proving credibility and saving a beach.
Just my 2 cents . . .
