I know Jeff and Emily have a lot of expenses such as hiring a boat big enough to support if required (I've delivered checks in ziplocks to captains), plus one or two jet skis with fuel and drivers and of course the humongous deluxe bus for half a day, and this year the North Posse to boot!
The year the wind shut off from the outside and cleaved a dozen stragglers from the pack I was running the jet ski and plucked them all from the sea (and one from Angel Island) and deposited them on the support vessel no questions asked. Not all that I retireved was a familar face from the bus...It's not like a USCG where your tax dollars are supporting the effort.
Kite Wind Surf does it for the sheer fun and to help support the community and bring it together! =D>
Hopefully you will support KWS in kind.
In the past shuttle vans have been organized by groups from 3rd and SF to return to the west side of the Bay after the bus returns to Alameda so you might want to consider that as well.
