I know I'm not the only one who saw the kid almost superman it into the concrete piles at the upper launch, with his dad teaching him on Saturday.
Yeah 3rd at super high tide (ie super slick) and gusty conditions is NOT the place to teach your kids. Go to Alameda. Hell 3rd isn't great for beginners in general

and progressively worse for advanced people… I can barely keep my footing on the upper launch these days.

However, at medium tides, when the small beach at "inktomi" is exposed, 3rd ave is an excellent, and probably the best place in the area for beginners to kite.
