Bay Area board advice

Post by paulwhitaker » Mon Mar 19, 2007 4:04 pm

Another request for advice.

I need some advice on board size and type. Been looking for used boards to save some $$. Craigs List has a few and some friends have a few but I need some advice on what to look for given my scenario (below)

210 lbs on a good day
Riding 14 m kite in 18 to 30 mph winds
intermediate rider (can stay upwind and do some small jumping)
Riding in conditions similar to Crissy Field and 3rd ave

Looking for some advice on size, style, what to ask about, etc.
Thanks

you want something with good flex for the chop around here. I realize you're trying to save some money, but at your skill level, you'll be able to benefit from a good quality board (easier to jump, easier upwind). As for size, I'll defer to someone else, but my guess is something in the 136-140cm range is good for your weight.

I have an 'almost' :) brand new 06 north dragon M that I'm selling. That should be just about your size. On a good day do you mean heavier? You might need a large :)

For a good twin tip, you need a board that is at least 40 wide, about 132 in length. North and Underground both make really good boards. Many others out there.....Get a board that is modern, less then 3 years old, and you will be quite happy.

I'm sure you have leveraged the great search function, as this topic has been discussed b4.....

Boards are easy to demo, and most shops have a few demos available. They all do have different feels, so if you have time/patience, try b4 you buy.

I'm 215#, and ride a custom Amundson TT, which is 130x40. It super sweet, and anytime you see me on the beach, which will be quite more starting in April, you are welcome to demo this board.

Good winds + waves, Zeev.

Also consider trying a Brunotti. It's a nice board, good pop, not a huge amount of rocker and likes alittle extra heel pressure but goes upwind very well and most importantly of all, for me anyway, is that so far I have been unable to break it. I can't say that about the previous four boards. They're made using snowboard construction techniques in the same factory as Burton.

Last summer in the Gorge I tried a Crazy Fly and it was sick... they make nice boards too - high performance.
