Post-Frontal N Wind Spots

Post by gideonlow » Tue Jan 02, 2007 8:19 pm

Fri/Sat/Sun forecast has strong North-NW winds and big swell for the San Mateo coast. I think Waddell & Scott may be too crazy again due to the northerly cant of the wind. Does anybody have any comments on the (slightly) SW facing beaches along Rt 1? Which one is safest and has the nicest breaks in large swell? I have only previously kitesurfed Waddell & Scott on the north coast.

Cheers,

Gideon

Isn't part of the problem that when the wind goes too much to the NNW it's blowing over land instead of coming straight across the water? It seems like you need a SW facing beach that is jutting out into the Pacific far enough to avoid the turbulence from land.

Down on the Central Coast there's a beach called Montana del Oro that fits the bill, but up here it seems like the only thing that comes even close is Point Reyes.

It says 10M, but it's really a 9.
