Bridge Of The Gods Amateurs

Here's a few clips of Brian Frink in the amateur division from last Sunday's competition. He took the lead after this round when it was blowing mid- to upper 20's, but the wind dropped for the finals which favored the unhooked riders, and he ended up 3rd. Also, congrats to Nemo Taylor for winning th...

Re: CULLINAN RANCH WILDLIFE AREA---OFF LIMITS FOR KITE-BOARD

It looks like Pond 3 is outside the wildlife refuge, but it doesn't look very deep on that aerial photo though. The wind really blows through that stretch coming off the San Pablo Bay, and I've always thought there could be some great kiting potential if you could only get onto San Pablo Bay somewhe...

Re: Kiteboarding from a backyard

There used to be a VRBO rental right on Davenport Beach near Waddell, but I don't see it there anymore. Santa Cruz has some on the beach, but usually the wind isn't adequate there. Here's one on Bodega Bay: http://bodegabaybirdwatch.com/amenities/amenities.html Stinson Beach has houses on the beach,...

New Sherman Access Path

There is a new access path to the water from the launch area at Sherman that will significantly increase safety with regards to risk of crossing lines of kiters on the path exiting from the water and those heading to the water on the "upper path" (foil path). It is plenty wide and has some carpeting...

Re: Accident in alameda 5/12

Here is a video demonstrating by far the safest way to launch a kite, whether assisted or self-launched. The reason is that the kiter can't get yarded while bringing the kite up to 11 o'clock after initial launch, as that is when the kite hits stronger wind higher up, and if overpowered, that's when...

Re: Accident in alameda 5/12

This is a sad day indeed for kiteboarders and especially enthusiasts here in Northern california that want to promote the sport and encourage others. It's also an important reminder that while Northern California has perhaps the best combination of kiteable waters and consistent winds in North Ameri...

Re: Carson Pass Snowkiting

Here's a clip from last weekend: The snow coverage was even better this time, and it's looking like the season will last until Memorial Day this year. Here's a map of the area at Carson Pass: Carson Pass.JPG After traversing up to the launch...

Re: Should Sherman Be Upgraded?

For those uncertain what the foil launch path referred to, here is a map: Sherman Launch.JPG The foilers rightly concluded that the 3rd path previously used as an alternate exit is the best entry path to the cove (I've used it sometimes when the main entry is jampacked and saved a lot of time and fr...
