Other locations have longer, more accessible kite seasons, and don't have our cost of living.

Late reply - but I stayed in Alameda recently, and was surprised to find out how good the bus service was out there. Can't remember which AC Transit line it was, but my gf actually had a quicker SF commute by bus than by BART.

No good deed goes unpunished. Saving a kite is worth getting yelled at by someone who doesn't understand the particular fix you're in at that moment. Maybe you could have done something better, but is rescuing a kite really something you're supposed to be good at?

Remind me why it was decided that launches should face the road? Seems a lot safer facing water instead (like they do at every other site I've heard of). I remember some debate about this back in the day, but not the details.

Being confident in your self-rescue is the main thing, in a pinch that'll maximize safety even if you have to scramble over rocks as a last-ditch exit strategy. Low tide is definitely a good idea for your first time at 3rd, though, that gives you a much wider margin of error, and makes those downwin...
