Wind at the beach this weekend?

Post by Pablito » Thu Nov 10, 2005 11:34 am

Forecast is for 15-25 NW all weekend at the beach. If it happens will Stinson be doable for intermediates, or will waves be huge and scary? More important, what do you think about the forecast?

In my early days of windsurfing I tried to chase storms and be at the coast for forecasts like that. Now I never look more than 12 hours ahead and that's doubly true in winter. If those numbers are still being called for Saturday morning I'll make plans, but not before.

If the wind has North cant to it, vs. strong NW direction, Stinson is less then ideal. The swells @ Stinson don't get very large, as they are blocked by the big duxbury reef which is South and West of Bolinas.....a few nice waves make it through but it's much smaller then other exposed beaches.

Later, Z.

It's been T-shirt weather here (in the Valley) the last two afternoons. I think right about the time I pull off my hoodie and start sweating is when the wind hits Berkeley.

It doesn't take long for that wind to get here, though, this time of year. About an hour after (see above) the breeze hits and it starts to cool down.

Here's to hoping for warm Valley afternoons through the weekend.

I just read the forecast, and my prediction would be north winds in the morning ... but the windline about 1/4 mile offshore. That's what happens when a ridge builds. Warm and sunny. Great beach weather. Best bet is to go surfing.

Damn, you guys were right. They changed the NW to N for Sunday :(

Can't swing Saturday. Guess I'll just have to head to Berkeley tomorrow and hope the wind is as steady as the sensor says it was today. Looks like summer wind!
