That sounds right about where the vortex of wind that streams off the south tower is. Not a good idea to go downwind of the South Tower. It has claimed quite a few kites and boards before. Good luck! was your name written on it?

I hope you called the Coast guard and identified your lost board.
The Crissy Safety kite board guideline advice is posted all over the internet, but many showing up unaware.
The worst offender Saturday was a guy who was flooded to first chance beach/the steps and walked there kite in the air back to the beach on the promenade/walk/bike path. What you do is put your kite down in the water and flag it and roll up one line several feet and then roll up all your lines, just like a self rescue. YOU do not walk your kite in the air down the SIDE WALK.

**** Update ****
Thanks for the concern guys.
I did have my phone number and email on the board (not sure if it was still legible though).
Apparently I'm a terrible judge of distance because I was over a kilometer from the south tower (according to google earth). Not yet in the giant shadow.
Also, I certainly wasn't the one responsible for the promenade incident.
Lastly, I did notify the coast guard.
Again, thanks for the tips. Is there anything else I should do about a lost board in the water?

Yes, you should post it on here and receive all kinds of awesome advice and stories about why you shouldn't have been doing what someone assumed you were doing based on the fact that you lost a board. Also, you should heed the very related warnings of not walking your kite down the promenade, which is 100% related to why you lost your board in the first place. If you didn't happen to be walking down the promenade strutting your stuff, you wouldn't have been so distracted by trying to impress others with your body in that tight wetsuit, and thus would not have forgotten your board on the promenade. You did lose it on the promenade, right? Of course you did.BGold wrote:**** Update ****
