Re: Season Opener?
I'm gonna agree with Phil on this.Aloha wrote:You sound lucky enough to have easy access to some great spots and the flexible schedule needed to get wind through the winter just as I am very grateful to have the opportunity to kite year-round between the bay, and places far east and far west of here - but sessions scored for the year is not exactly what I meant
Season Opener as in warm sunny weekend weather in the bay area & spots full of familiar faces, kiting friends, and those new to the community that you don't get to see out on an empty random pro weekday on the coast
I've had about 10 sessions since the beginning of the year. That's not a season opener to me.
Season opens when you have those march/april nuke days across the bay.
Then you know thermals are gonna kick in and you'll be able to score 3 to 4 sessions per week (sometimes 5 or even 6 when you're lucky).
And not just pump your kite under the rain for a marginal 40min sesh or in 15ft surf...

Re: Season Opener?
Some folks got some at Berkeley today--there were a few kites out on the horizon, but they looked like they were working it pretty hard and a couple guys who launched a bit later couldn't get upwind. Plus, it was somewhat overcast with chilly water.
It's late March and here in the East Bay we're still waiting for that official "opening day" of sunny weather and strong, steady wind mentioned earlier.

Agreed - this thread when I posted was a false start, the forecast shifted a bit. Mid-Next Week on the other hand.....kitenaked wrote:Its officially starting next week.

I was wrong. It started today! Nice here in Benicia. If I can only convince myself to suit up. It's kinda chilly.Aloha wrote:Agreed - this thread when I posted was a false start, the forecast shifted a bit. Mid-Next Week on the other hand.....kitenaked wrote:Its officially starting next week.

Yr buddy in Kailua seemed to think it started last weekend. It was hovering near 72 degrees and I thought it funny to see guys in full wetsuits.....
