I'm planning a xMas trip to San Jose del Cabo, and I want to get my kites too . Anybody kited/surfed there? Anything to know about the currents and other hazards?
PS: I know about La Ventana but i won't be able to go there.
Thanks!

Re: Kiting in San Jose del Cabo
I don't think people kite there. Los Barriles north of Cabo is a good spot but its not very close either. Barriles is between Cabo and La Ventana. I kited a reef at Cabo Pulmo, located half hour south of Barriles but its not a destination, locals told us nobody kites there, but windsurfers go out. I've heard there is a wave spot on the pacific side but its more of an expert venue... Honestly you should probably leave your kites at home and enjoy the food and beaches.

Re: Kiting in San Jose del Cabo
Rent a car and go to Barriles for the day, cars are not cheap to rent because of the mandatory insurance but total cost is less than a ski lift ticket for a day. it is about 45 minutes from north end of san jose. Nothing on the pacific till 40 miles north of lapaz. Rip tides make it dangerous from cabo to todos Santos with no rescue. I live in LaVentana and am a windsurfer.
There are also buses that run east cape side to Barilles every 2-3 hours each way, cost about USD$10-15.. But I am not aware of a taxi service in Barilles to get you to a launch. It may be walkable if it is a good launch right down the road but as I said I am from laventana so do not know the conditions.
Cabo Pulmo can be dangerous depending on the tide and waves, if windsurfers are out and you can ask about conditions you should be fine there. But if no-one is there to advise do not go out unless you know your tide charts. vs laventana and barriles both are safe and just launch where others launch and know where you can come in as there are sea urchins in many areas. Sea urchins are not life threatening but if you step on them and it throws you off balance and the kite goes off balance is the danger.

I get 10M, 13M Kites, bar/lines, shorty wetsuit, harness all in one luggage bag. Use Virgin or Alaska, they charge the least for kiteboards. Rent a car with insurance. Stay in Los Barilles or La Ventana. More to do in LB.
2013-2014, Flights and surfboards:
Virgin

Sweet, thanks for the info. Yeah, i plan to get my twintip and i bought a Naish golf bag :D. As far as I saw, pretty much all airlines don't charge extra for a twintip and especially golf bags. They do charge as you posted for surfboards since they are way longer :).

I have kited SJDC. Bring a big light wind kite and board. Winds are side and side on but in the 8-14 range at best. SUP beach is nice as is the beach by old town. Do watch out for rips.
