Motivated & Passionate Beginner looking for a mentor @3rd Av

Post by biba » Mon Aug 19, 2013 4:03 pm

I've been an avid snowboarder, but living in the Bay makes that a very short 3 mo deal and maybe there's pow to do some treeglades.

So, I got into kiteboarding. Took 5hr lessons, got my own gear, two kites lol (yes i'm determined). I came at 3rd Ave twice, and got in the water too, NICE crowd and definitely a pleasure to watch the aerials!

I'm looking for a mentor, I have sooo many questions :). I promise not to be a time hog.

What i'm after? Wanna learn to freestyle on water, as I do on snowboard.
Where I'm at: i can go upwind, though not consistent. I've scheduled an extra 2 hr private lesson with the guys at Kite-415 (Ovi) this upcoming Sat, but I really wanna push in more.

PS: Beer & Steaks will be provided :)
PS2: yes i will pump your kite, fine.
PS3: what? carry it to the launch area @ 3rd?... ok, fine, that too.

Thanks much!
Biba

Hey Biba, welcome!

You'll be fine, no need for official mentors or special favors (although I hear that beer is quite popular).

Come to 3rd, hang out, talk to people and enjoy some time on the water before the season ends. I'm sure people will be happy to answer your questions, either in person or here on the forum!

what kind of beer?

No, but seriously, just go to the upper launch and introduce yourself and chat with the locals. You will make friends quickly and learn a lot in the process. Beers after always help too!
good luck and have fun!

biba,

Look for me at the lower launch. If you come hang out at the lower launch then you will meet the regular free style guys.

+1 for Sonny. Showed me around my first day too. Not sure where he gets the energy to be the 3rd ambassador but props to him for it! (Does a pretty nice kite repair too!)
