Re: Collinsville Launch?
Spinner Island is the best place nearby to launch from but its really only boat accessible. I have done upwinders from Sherman to there a few times lots of fun

Re: Collinsville Launch?
I checked out Collinsville once because it would save 20 minutes over driving to Sherman, not to mention the occasional half hour traffic jam through Rio Vista from the lift bridge and the lousy Delta roads. The launch is feasible except for the "No Trespassing" signs. It has potential for a really great public access.
In my pre-kite days, I once windsurfed Montezuma Slough from the public access where you turn right off Collinsville Rd about a mile before Collinsville. Theoretically you could kite from there 2 miles down Montezuma Slough to the Sac River at Collinsville. If you do it, don't forget a camera to document it for an addition to the "That's a First" thread.

Re: Collinsville Launch?
OK, Yoda, you've got me up for a challenge. I'm organizing a downwinder from Montezuma Slough to Sherman. We'll call it the FAMSSIKR (First Annual Montezuma Slough-Sherman Island Kite Run). Or maybe the FEITHOTUMSSIKR (First Ever in The History of the Universe Montezuma Slough-Sherman Island Kite Run).
The only challenge I see is the slightly upwind stretch part way down the slough and the bailout situation for equipment problems. Maybe someone has a motorboat and generous friend to drive it up from Sherman for support and to carry snacks/beverages for a break at an island part way down.
I'll scope out the launch off Collinsville Rd next time I head to Sherman. There used to be a dock there that might make the onshore-wind launch easier.
I'm not sure if it would be better to plan for a flood or ebb tide.
Anyone interested?

Re: Collinsville Launch?
Thanks, Sloughslut. Kiting Montezuma Slough might not be a first after all. If you can kite there and back from Sherman, it makes that downwinder a bit anticlimactic also.
Any other good ideas for a downwinder in the Delta?
