Yodes - For newer kites I think 3m gap "is the new" 2m.
What percentage do you ride surfboard vs TT?
I've always felt the same way about 7 until my pivot to 6 / 9 this year

I have been grappling with a similar issue. I have a 9 and a 7 and was thinking off going with a 6 instead. I found that the 7 is good 80 percent of the time and a 5 or 6 would be great for hurricane force winds

Two or Three Kite Quiver?
I'm finding that my seven is often just a little less power than I like. I'm heading toward the 6/8 option with probably a 10/13 or 11/14 for lighter wind.

It depends how much you value your sessions vs. your money. I guarantee that with a 3m split, you'll have some days where you wish you had the kite right in between the two sizes. There's no wrong decision, I'd err towards three kites where the middle one is your "money" machine that you fly 80% of the time, but that's me.

I posted this to another thread I can't remember which one.. But wind around here for me generally falls into 1 of 4 modes:
1) 12m / light
2) 6m / nuke
3) 9m / solid but not nuke
4) 9m / up and down
Oh and then 18m + raceboard / "let's go sail a kite" light

And what's the rider's weight/board specs for these suggestions?Aloha wrote:I posted this to another thread I can't remember which one.. But wind around here for me generally falls into 1 of 4 modes:

I'm 195 usually on surfboard - Occasional alaia / TT / raceboard. A properly sized surfboard certainly helps to negate weight factor

Re: Two or Three Kite Quiver?
You could also try line extenders.. that adds about a meters worth more power to the kite

Re: Two or Three Kite Quiver?
Good point about money vs. session. I'm content with 12m and 9m, but I've only been riding in the Bay. It's almost never so windy that I wish I had something smaller. Last Saturday at the Toll Plaza was one of those rare days--I was a little overpowered on the 9m, but it worked out okay. Not worth it to buy an extra kite or two for those exceptional days where I might need them.
