Sturdiest Harnesses?

Post by windstoked » Wed Jun 05, 2013 7:29 am

I keep having problems with seat harnesses tearing out, and wondering if anyone knows the most durable ones for freestyle. Waist harnesses hurt my back. I need something that can hold up to 30+ ft boosts, megaloops, etc.

Your first prob is that it's a seat harness .

& your second prob is that if you have a bad back maybe you shouldn't be doing "megaloops"

This one has the back support of a waist harness but won't ride up. I use a similar one recommended to me by Evan @ L2k when it is super windy and my core is getting tired from multiple kite sessions over several days. Underwave also makes great waist and seat harnesses. Talk to Chris from Kitenaked. These are very well made and reasonably priced.

I've had a Pro-Limit Kite Seat Pro for a couple years and it's been holding up well to kiteloops and huge boosts.
Purchased it in Oregon when I visited there. Not sure where to get one these days.

I think Rebecca and Jane over at Boardsports would be the local Pro-Limit dealers

Thanks all for some great recommendations. The greatest stress on my Dakine harnesses comes from the riding partners that I share equipment with. I keep the harnesses going as long as possible (rarely over a year) with bailing wire and heavy duty stitching.

I've also noticed that a seat harness can actually create a different kind of achey back too in certain circumstances. Be aware of your back rounding while you kite with a seat harness if you have back issues... The tow point pressure is no longer requiring a rigid back, but on the flip side it may be encouraging you to hold a round back position for an extended period of time
