Yes, that's a recurring problem. To be fair, though, Friday was unusual.guidoz wrote:Alameda does not stop to amaze me... how many times have we seen this, guys pumping up there 12s, when experienced people are on there 9s.
I recall a spring day at Alameda last year when it was nuking. The sand was whipping up off the beach and stinging you, there were lots of kites lined up on the beach and everyone had a 9m or smaller. It was crystal clear this wasn't a "big kite" day. I didn't have a 9m at the time and I didn't even think of pumping up my 12m--I just watched for a while and then went home.
Friday was different--very deceptive. When I arrived in the early afternoon, there were only a couple of people out and the wind seemed "eh." In fact, I was more concerned I might be *underpowered.* People were pumping 12's--experienced kiters, not newbies, including my teacher. (He later said he wasn't overpowered, but he did come in for his 10.5).
I wasn't getting pulled off my board, but I could've gone with the 9m right from the start. I'm still not clear on how or why this deception occurred.
