Yay! These forecasts *can* be helpful in addition to your own sites, local readings, observations and common meteorological sense, but I just have to quote someone from last year's thread on this topic:

"I hope (Mike) Gosdey has a window in his office this year"
(Mike is the lead forecaster for iKite)

Sorry, I just had to re-post that!

Speaking of ikite, i think they need a new pic on the homepage. That pic is so old, I think Mr. Tatoo is rocking a 2 line kite!

you really still check forcasts? I only look at my 3- 4 sensors and thats it - oh yeah forgot that there are 2 -3 more cams in the game. Much better than any forecast to see whats coming up in the next hour or so. Far less frustration.

Yes, I do check the human forecasts.
The coast is easier to predict with the model tables and what the buoys are doing.
So I don't have much problem predicting going out even a few days in advance on the coast during the winter.
But I feel like the model tables have a hard time predicting ventury effects and thermals (aka third ave or sherman).
The human forecast help me on this. (Plus, I only have been riding for 2 years, give me a couple more years and I should be able to not pay attention to iKitesurf human forecast. )

If I had NOT checked the Ikite forecast today, I would be kiting right now instead of just getting back from a bike ride in the rain -- #$&%^#.

NOAA nailed the forecast for the coast. Ikite: FAIL! I should have known better than to believe the guys who are just rolling back into town and don't have a feeling for "winter" 2013.

That said, we are already in a really strange pattern for March. The setup today is a pure summer one, with marine layer pushing through the GG -- not a winter clearing wind type of setup at all. Second time in a week it has set up this way.

Not to defend iKite, but their forecast is in knots, not in mph.
It's never been blowing more than 18 knots on average at sherman all morning and that's what ikitesurf predicted.

I feel like a lot of people are bashing on iKitesurf (not against you sloughslut, just talking in general on this forum) for no reasons.
It seems like people think: "dude, I'm paying $10 a month, I should know EXACTLY which size of kite I should bring to the beach so I don't have to bring them all".
It's silly.
I take iKitesurf forecast for what it is: an indication of what the day has to offer, and they are usually pretty darn close by 5 kts at the most.
Do they miss it sometimes? yes, of course, but so does the weather channel when they predict rain and it doesn't rain.

If I see orange and red in the forecast, I'll be at the beach (and so far, it never failed me).
If I just see yellow, then I'll do something else but keep an eye on the sensors like I would do on a regular basis.

We all have been skunked one day or another.
If iKitesurf wasn't there, people would still pull the trigger on sherman if it was blowing 20kts at 7am, but now, if it dies when they get there at 9am and iKitesurf predicted the mid day lull at 11am then OMG! iKitesurf sucks! Truth is, they would have pulled the trigger no matter what, but now they have somebody to blame.

Plus, we've got over 20 sensors now in the bay area thanks to them.
Now, I'm not saying they're always right, but come on...
