Bump. Wonder if it's still worthwhile if it's the only place blowing when the wind hasn't made its way further in at Dillon... "A ship is safe in harbor, but that's not what ships are built for"
Re: Pt. ReyesKite-boarding:
Kite-boarding is not allowed off Limantour Beach, Drakes Beach, and the Great Beach due to snowy plover habitat. This closure is necessary as kite-boarding interferes with wildlife behavior. http://www.nps.gov/pore/parkmgmt/upload ... 120622.pdf see page 5 of 18
Re: Pt. ReyesWait, so "tubas" is a no go zone now?
Re: Pt. Reyes
Correct, NO kiteboarding National Park Service U.S. Department of the Interior Superintendent’s Compendium Of Designations, Closures, Permit Requirements and Other Restrictions Imposed Under Discretionary Authority.
Re: Pt. ReyesBTW, by "interferes with wildlife habitat" is Park-Servicese for
"Kiteboarders are kooks." Closure is actually a result of idiot behavior by a kiter who had to be rescued by rangers and proceeded to get his lines wrapped around the propeller of their boat, costing them a rebuilt outboard motor and freaking them out. In general, you should not be kiting in the ocean in Northern California unless you: 1) Know what you are doing 2) Know how to swim very well 3) Have buddies who are going to save your A$$ if you are not capable of doing it yourself. In the meantime we can all thank one dumbass for costing us the ability to ride one of the only kiteable tubes on the Norcal coast. ![]() Paul
