2016 Olympics - Kitesurfing out?

Post by sc-surfer » Sat Nov 10, 2012 11:16 am

I can't say I'm bummed. I know growth is inevitable but I am enjoying the small close knit feeling kiteboarding has right now.
No doubt the olympics would be huge for kiteboarding and a good thing in many ways. If the sport sticks around as I'm sure it will we will eventually see it in the Olympics.
Until then let's just enjoy the golden age of kiteboarding!!

I feel the Olympics are the wrong venue for Kiteboard racing, evidenced by this decision. It would be better suited to an X Games demographic. This is an extremely positive development for the sport.

Good point. X-games definitely seems like a better venue.

In terms of inducing excitement, watching kite course racing and windsurfing are about equal for me.

Close shore kite slalom - now that's an x-game / spectator sport

Well, that's true, '02 through '09 were pretty epic years and '05-'08 particularly fun with the community (gear was getting much better too). It was still a new sport, and when you went kiting, especially at places like Sherman, it was a different era really... But kiting is still fun!

This is very good news imo!!!
Hopefully this decision will have some kind of effect on reducing the amount of racerheads training out at SI. It was getting a LITTLE out of control this year. Note: This was edited from my true thoughts about some of the racerheads at SI. I know I'm not alone on this topic. ;-)
