Anyone know anything about kiting in Christchurch, New Zealand this time of year?
I'm heading there in the middle of this month for a few days for work, but I'll extend my trip if its worth bringing gear.
Any advice would be appreciated. Smallest kite is a 9, but I've been wanting to pick up a 7, just waiting for an excuse.

You'll be getting there just as the season kicks in so you have some chance at wind. Mid summer there (Jan-Feb) is more reliable with an afternoon seabreeze but this time of year can work out. The to main local stores are:
Groundswell http://www.kitesurf.co.nz/
And KiteSports http://www.kitesports.co.nz/
Pre earthquake the Eastury was the high tide flat water spot with stronger winds than the beach. I doubt you'd need a 7m. 9m and 12m are the most common size, unless you head into the mountain lakes, in which case a 7m or a 5m are more useful. If you go to the store, tell them Chris Brent says hi :)
