I think it depends on your experience to be sure. Although there is always some risk, seasoned riders are adept and self launching and landing, can judge conditions well and are fine to go out and ride. Variables include location - some spots carry more risk than others. Knowledge of typical patterns and conditions is key also. Your ability is key. But my advice would be to be realistic about your skill level and experience, the time of year and where you are riding. Don't put yourself in a risky situation. So, at your level, might be best to ride, or at least be in the company of others...

I remember being a noob and launching at Crissy alone... went out lost my board instantly and came back in. This of course was in 06 when kiting was still kinda a secret. The locals were actually all watching me from the beach drinking beer prob saying "look at this dumbass"..... I was trying to catch a late day session in September. All on 04 fuels T*i*m*e

same here.
I always give a call to my girlfriend or to a friend to let them know where I am and a time I should contact them when I'm out of the water.
I remember an epic session at third this passed winter.
Riding the front of a storm all by myself early on a monday.
Was getting out of the water every 30 minutes to call bruce.

thanks for the advice. I've thought about packing a pair of swimming fins and a cell phone(wrap in a waterproof bag) along with me just in case if I ever get blown out off shore.

get a vhf radio.
channel 16 for the CG.

But since you're a noob, I wouldn't recommend you going alone in the first place.

Mojodan,

Newbie here too. Also know a couple other very new kiters. Certainly happy to fit you in the group.
I'm in Richmond.
Where are you located?
