Well so much for the ideal that riding a board with a sail (or a kite) is somehow going to keep a shark from striking...

I'm a sea urchin diver. That doesn't seem real to me as a 20 year veteran windsurfer, why would your mast break as you report? As a fisherman, sharks seldom miss a food target. As a kite surfer, c'mon, that's part of the fun.

to outrun a bear you don't have to be faster than the bear.. just faster than the slowest person...
so just make sure you can kite faster than the other windsurfers/kiters.

I was surfing in a rather remote location one morning when a pod of dolphine (like 300) schooled around us... I was thinking HOW COOL when suddenly my friend was BLASTED out of the water by a hugh bull (male)!! All I could think of was, I got to OUT PADDLE those guys right NOW!!
