Bay Area Kiting in October

Post by troybo13 » Fri Sep 14, 2012 7:33 am

Hey All,
I am coming out to Bay Area for October. I try to bring kites everywhere I go but curious what are the chances of decent wind at 3rd, Sherman's, coast or elsewhere. I would even consider driving a couple hours to bang a session in.

Appreciate any insight.

Two days in the last Three years for me in October... I get more in November... January is the worst month for the Bay Area IMO

Its sad, i get a little depressed when kiting season ends. also get a little fat.

3rd usually gets anywhere from 30mins -2hrs of wind in the late afternoon most days in October. Its usually pretty light though so bring a big kite or a skimboard. Your best bet is to just be there. By the time you check the sensor and drive out the wind could be dead. Sometimes we get warm northerly winds/offshore flow which makes a couple places fun to ride.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the responses.
Looks like I will have to bring kites. I can't stand the idea of not kiting for the whole month.
I will check in when I get there.

Cheers!

Hey All!
I fly into the bay area today. Where is the best bet for wind?
3rd Ave in late afternoon?
Sherman?

Mahalo for any recommendations.

Forecast for 3rd is "mid teens inside then upper teens in the channel" (late afternoon).
Sherman doesn't look very promising.
