On the way onto the island along the levee road there is a good spot. It is located a few hundred yards past the windsurfing shack (the one near the main highway) at the bend of the road. You will usually see people pulled over fishing there. The wind is at your back so its manageable to actually fish... although I only fish when there is no wind. It's pretty popular on the weekend... rednecks and Mexicans drinking beer on the RIO!

I have fished for Striped Bass at this location and have been successful with anchovies. I caught four small fish on half anchovies’ within an hour, started to run out of bait so i baited up full anchovies... as soon as the full bait hit the water I landed a big 20" bass, he must of been lurking for a full dinner. I used a light weight saltwater pole, maybe 10-15lb test, with a basic two hook setup like you use for rockfish etc... a 20" bass is pretty big. Live bait is also good, lures are tricky, anchovie always seems to work, everything loves shrimp (except some picky humans which I will never understand)

HAHA!!

Get em at a bait shop. Achovies, Hering, ETC.. there is a shop in RIO. Anchovies are "FUNKY" smelling, maybe just get some shrip for the little girl and all. Have fun!!

That actually sounds like a relaxing activity during the midday lull. :::)

Go kite fishing... Drag a lure behind you while you kite. Then do a big air when you catch a fish :)
i have done that in tropical waters but might not work so well at Sherman. worth a try though.

You can do it at waddell. Just body drag. No need of a bait.
